OBJECTIVES | EXTERNAL ACTIONS | SERVICES
The City Council’s Department for European and International Relations is designed to develop Terrassa's positioning on the international scenario, to monitor the public policies generated by this area and to analyse the city's participation in them. Other activities feature participation in city networks, bilateral cooperation and projects in the different spheres of municipal action. It also acts as a driving force and provides support to other municipal areas and other organisations in the city in any matters pertaining to European and international relations.
This Department is the reference point in the follow-up of the City Council's European and international public policies, and is called upon to act as an active and multiplying agent in the dissemination of such policies and their impact on the local setting.
1 To position the city on the European and international scenario.
2 To promote Terrassa's participation in international networks, meetings of forums, symposia, seminars, among others, while also publicising Terrassa abroad to make the city, and its potential, better-known on the European and international scene.
3 To bring the process of European integration closer to the city, boosting its participation in related actions, and promote awareness of the European Union and the different implications it has for the citizens of Terrassa.
4 To provide information, assessment and aid in European and international matters, particularly in community programmes and initiatives, that may contribute to the city's development.
5 To boost and maintain relations between Terrassa and the other European countries and European and international organs and institutions.
6 To work towards the promotion of existing dealings with Europe on the institutional, business, university, educational, cultural and sports fronts, in order to establish synergies, leverage contacts and drive transversal projects.
Thus, the activity of this Council Department must constitute a dynamic tool for collaboration and transversal work with the different municipal areas and the different local, state and international institutions.
1 Research, investigation and analysis of “partnerships” through the information systems of the European Union and in-house contacts.
2 Implementation and maintenance of “lobbying”, visits and contacts to/with the community institutions and organs, as well as with other European and international institutions and organs with a view to obtaining first-hand information on new trends and developments in public policies in Europe and in the rest of the world.
3 Boosting Terrassa’s presence in European and international networks, events and activities.
4 Furthering Terrassa's participation in international organisations (UN, UNESCO, etc.).
5 Drive and dynamise the network started up and led by Terrassa, European Cities for Development and Co-operation (ECDC), of European cities with similar socioeconomic characteristics.
1 Sourcing, analysis, assessment and management of information from European and international activity to detect action possibilities by submitting projects.
2 Driving force in participation in European and international projects of the different municipal areas.
3 Support to the different council departments in adapting European public policies to local needs.
4 Coordination and assessment of the participation and municipal activities towards the European Union.
5 Collaboration with the Presidential Area in the development of institutional affairs.
6 Information on the activity of the Council Department of International Relations to the rest of the City council, and the promotion of European relations in the greatest possible number of areas.
